Currency Converter

The Malaysian ringgit with currency code MYR (But commonly referred as RM) formerly the Malaysian dollar is the currency of Malaysia. It is divided into 100 sen (cents).

The Malaysian ringgit (RM) consists of 100 sen. Coins in use are one, five, 10, 20 and 50 sen, and RM1; notes come in RM1, RM2, RM5, RM10, RM50 and RM100. Locals sometimes refer to the ringgit as a ‘dollar’.

In 1837, Malaysia converted from the use of the Spanish silver dollar to the Indian rupee. This lasted for 30 years until 1867 when the country decided to re-implement the use of the silver dollar. In 1903 Malaysia changed currencies again, this time using the Straits dollar, which was pegged at two shillings to the British pound (GBP). It was not until 1975 that Malaysia officially adopted the ringgit,
